What is Pilates?

"In 10 sessions you'll feel the difference, in 20 you'll see

the difference, in 30, you'll have a whole new body."

(Joseph Pilates)

About Pilates

Pilates was founded by Joseph Pilates in the early part of the 20th century. Mat Pilates is a popular programme of exercise that can help to enhance posture, strength, balance, mobility, co-ordination and flexibility. Pilates is a system of controlled exercises that engage the mind and condition the whole body. With a strong emphasis on building core strength, Pilates helps to tone and flatten your ab's, build your lower back strength and enhance your abdominal strength. It is suitable for everyone, regardless of age, ability or fitness level, because each exercise can be modified or altered to meet individual needs.

Doctors, physiotherapists, dancers and athletes have long revered Pilates as a powerful healing and physical training system. Many people also turn to Pilates to help relieve pain and for the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries, especially lower back pain. Pilates has profound health benefits for both the mind and body.
